Historic Downtown Custer

Shops, cafés and Black Hills gold-rush history, two miles north.

Custer sits near the place where gold was discovered in 1874, which kicked off the Black Hills gold rush. Today its main street is a friendly stop for shops, cafés, restaurants and groceries.

It's two miles from the cabin, which makes it the easiest place to stock the kitchen, grab a coffee before a day in the park, or walk around after dinner.

Highlights

  • Main street shops and cafés
  • Groceries and supplies
  • Mickelson Trail trailhead
  • Local history

Local tips

  • Stock up here before heading into the park; services inside Custer State Park are limited.
  • Ask in a shop or café for the local favorites. The people are happy to share them.
