House rules in full

You'll be staying in someone's home, so please treat it with care and respect.

During your stay

  • Check-in after 3:00 pm, check-out before 10:00 am
  • Self check-in with a keypad door code
  • 7 guests maximum, stays up to 28 nights

  • NO FIRES, please follow local laws. Starting a forest fire, even by accident, can be punished by felony.
  • Do not drive between the windmill and the cabin: there is a septic tank in that area.
  • Be respectful of the property. Neighbors are far enough away that noise is not much of an issue.
  • Do not feed the neighbors' goats anything other than field grass.
  • No pets inside the cabin. A $100 cleaning fee is charged if this rule is broken.

Before you leave

  • Lock up

Good to know

Tips from your hosts.

  • Find the AC remote. The living-room split AC/heat is controlled by a remote — if the cabin feels cold, that's the first place to look.
  • Dress in layers. Black Hills mountain nights are cool even in summer, so you can sleep with the windows open.
  • Games are in the cabinet behind the shed — perfect for the lawn.
  • One bathroom. Plan morning schedules accordingly with a full house.
  • Stock up in Custer. Groceries and restaurants are two miles up the road; the cabin has a full kitchen.
Beds at a glance. Bedroom 1: one queen. Bedroom 2: one queen, one full and a twin trundle. The living-room couch is not a sofa sleeper. The cabin sleeps 5–6 comfortably and up to 7 guests.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I book?

Bookings, pricing and payment are handled securely through Airbnb. Choose your dates on this page or on the listing and you'll land on Airbnb with them pre-filled.

How many people can the cabin sleep?

It sleeps 5–6 comfortably, with a maximum of 7 guests. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed; Bedroom 2 has a queen bed plus a full bed with a twin trundle. The living room couch is not a sofa sleeper, and there is one bathroom.

How long can we stay?

Stays can be up to 28 nights. We don't take longer rentals or monthly stays.

Are pets allowed?

No, we're sorry: pets are not welcome. The house rules say no pets inside the cabin, and a $100 cleaning fee is charged if that rule is broken. Assistance animals are always allowed.

Is there Wi-Fi, A/C and laundry?

Yes to all three: fast Wi-Fi (about 109 Mbps) with a dedicated workspace, a split AC/heat unit in the main living space (controlled by a remote — look for it on arrival), and a free in-cabin washer and dryer.

Can we have a campfire?

No — fires are not allowed on the property.

What's the cell service like?

Good. Guests regularly mention that cell reception is solid on the hill.

Where exactly is the cabin?

Two miles south of Custer, South Dakota. The exact address is shared after you book, along with check-in instructions.

What's the cancellation policy?

A full refund up to 30 days before check-in, 50% of every night back from 30 to 7 days before (the service fee is not refunded), and no refund within 7 days. Airbnb shows the exact cutoff for your dates once you choose them.

How does check-in work?

Self check-in with a keypad door code, any time after 3:00 PM. Luggage drop-off is allowed if you arrive early or leave late. The address and your code are sent after you book.

Is there parking?

Yes, free parking on the property, including a two-stall carport that offers protection from the region's frequent hail.
